Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee and CASH/ Women Cell/ SHE Box Committee of GDC Marheen organized an awareness programme in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Kathua under SANKALP: HEW  (Hub for Empowerment of Women), Mission Shakti, Kathua, with the objective of sensitizing college students about various Social Welfare Schemes, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta, esteemed, Principal of the College. During the awareness session, the expert lecture was delivered by Ms. Shikha, Gender Specialist, SANKALP: HEW, Mission Shakti, Kathua, who interacted with the students and provided them with valuable information regarding various government welfare initiatives and schemes designed for the empowerment and social security of women, children and other vulnerable sections of society. She shared about the objectives and importance of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, with emphasis on promoting the value of the girl child, ensuring equal opportunities for girls in education, preventing gender discrimination, and encouraging women's empowerment. The students were also sensitised about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the serious physical, mental, social and economic consequences of substance abuse. The Gender Specialist highlighted the important role of youth in preventing drug abuse and encouraged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle, make responsible choices and spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs and other addictive substances among their peers and in the community. The session also focused on creating awareness about Social Welfare Schemes and encouraging students to remain informed about government programmes so that eligible beneficiaries can access the benefits available to them. The programme was interactive, with students actively participating in the discussion and raising queries related to social welfare schemes, gender equality, women empowerment and substance abuse prevention. She responded to the queries and encouraged the students to share the information with their families and communities. The event was coordinated and managed by Dr. Balbinder Singh and DR. Munisha Devi (Convener, NMBA and Convener, Women Cell) the other faculty presented during the programme were Dr. Arun Dev Singh, Prof. Anoop Sharma, Dr. Shallu Rani, and Prof. Manu Saini, Dr. Reemi, Prof. Suman and Prof. Diksha.

The programme concluded with an appeal to the students to actively contribute towards building a gender-equitable, empowered and drug-free society. The college administration appreciated the initiative of SANKALP: HEW, Mission Shakti, Kathua and acknowledged the efforts of the Gender Specialist in creating awareness among the youth on important social issues.
