Government Degree College (GDC) Marheen organised an awareness lecture on “Flood Safety and Preparedness” under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) committee, with the objective of sensitising students about flood-related risks, preventive measures, preparedness, and appropriate safety responses during flood emergencies. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Balbinder Singh, Convener, Disaster Risk Reduction, who provided a detailed and informative presentation on various aspects of flood safety. The programme was conducted under the able guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta, whose leadership continues to promote awareness and preparedness among students towards various disaster-related challenges. The programme was managed by Dr. Shallu Rani and Prof. Manu Saini, who ensured the smooth and effective conduct of the awareness activity. The speaker highlighted the causes and impacts of floods and elaborated on essential precautionary measures that individuals should adopt before, during, and after a flood. He also emphasized the importance of timely evacuation, staying informed through official advisories, avoiding flooded roads and waterlogged areas, safeguarding essential documents and emergency supplies, and extending support to vulnerable members of the community during disasters. Dr. Balbinder Singh stressed that awareness, preparedness, and timely action are crucial for minimising loss of life and property during flood situations. His practical explanations and safety guidelines enabled students to develop a better understanding of disaster preparedness and responsible behaviour during emergencies. The students participated actively in the programme and engaged enthusiastically with the lecture. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions and discuss practical situations related to flood safety and emergency preparedness. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and support from the faculty members, including Dr. Arun Dev Singh, Dr. Munisha Devi, Dr. Reemi Verma and Prof. Diksha.
